Stream One: Urban Renewal & Affordable Development

Here we will look at  land use and urban development policies, improving tenure security, land acquisition, land classification and land banking for informal settlers, improving connectivity through a comprehensive mass transportation system that would better link jobs and housing distribution, as well as, fostering a city-wide approach to affordable housing. We will also explore how to develop digital masterplans to establish smart, connected, mixed used communities and how to integrate the urban planning process to be more responsive to current realities.  

Stream Two: Construction Excellence & Productivity

In this stream we will look at new and innovative high density housing projects, reviewing and standardising housing design and production to respond and cater to changes in lifestyle preference and meet the needs of the target groups. We will also delve into the latest building technologies to increase building efficiency and consistency, best practices in modular building and catalysing new technologies suitable for affordable housing construction to suit local climate and culture, as well as,  increased safety and quality in construction.  

Stream Three: Inclusive Financing Models

Here we will examine how to mobilise the untapped resources of the private sector, explore the suitability of the capital market in providing long term funding and look at the structuring of public-private partnerships to support the execution of affordable housing development.  We will also uncover alternative funding mechanisms like nontraditional housing finance programs, establishing  “rent-to-own” models, developing well-designed subsidy schemes and including rural banks under the microfinance frameworks that will make housing affordable to thepoorest segment of society.

Day 3 - Workshop One

Design Thinking Meets Housing

Design Thinking a highly experiential approach a methodology for innovation that combines creative and analytical approaches, and requires collaboration across disciplines. This process focuses on needfinding, understanding, creating, thinking, and doing.  In the industry of housing development many of the business methods are standardised and outdated. This workshop puts forth a different approach which incorporates design thinking into the process that could have a large impact on urban development. Attend this workshop to strengthen your ability to lead and enhance innovation in your organisation.

Day 4 - Workshop Two

Capacity Building: Developing a Successful Public Private Partnership Project in Housing

Delivering successful affordable housing projects from inception to completion through effective capacity building is crucial. An interactive course where delegates will gain knowledge of structuring PPPs, identifying and managing the risks and addressing elements that are critical to housing projects.
